Animal Exploitation

Why is there animal exploitation? Is there any reason to abuse animals? Created by the same, yet forgotten what was told. “…Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” God, NIV. A clear instruction, yet so changed throughout time.  Now a day’s people have lost all respect towards nature. Using dogs, roosters, horses and other animals, abusing from them to earn money. In a desperate fight to earn money, humans constantly put in danger the life of many animals.

Manipulating the way families enjoy their time, theme parks like Sea World earn millions a year but abuse from animals. Leaving a dog in a kennel for a year is abuse but leaving a family of Killer Whales in a pool is fun to see. The way society manipulates our minds into agreeing with animal cruelty. Some would say that animals are dangerous and have killed many but usually animals act in self-defense. “Killer whale kills trainer at Orlando's Sea World” a title on NY Daily News. Clearly, not the whale’s fault. People get overwhelmed at the idea that an animal killed a human. First of all, what was a Killer Whale doing in a pool? After deeply thinking the idea that humans do anything to earn money, it becomes easy to understand the way animals react by feeling restricted to their natural impulses.

Concluding my point, undomesticated animals should stay in their natural environment. Yet other animals like the dog, which have a famous quote “a dog is a man’s best friend”, is a type of animal that can live peacefully with humans. Humans need to understand the beauty that lies behind each animal, yet to respect them in their precious environment. One might be able to succeed in training a wild animal but at some point that animal might do a treacherous act. God made the animals for people to enjoy them, clearly respecting them and treating them the right way.

  1. I would have to agree with you in the fact that people, influenced and manipulated by society, often treat animals according to their personal interests. This is still a very sad and inhumane act, and even though people might be doing certain things to help some animals, like the stated example regarding the dogs in the kennels, in the end they do others that does not necessarily do the same. Some people might have good intentions deep inside, but in the development of these, many tend to forget the importance of nature and animals per se, abusing of them, like you said, mostly for economical stability. It would be amazing if animals could receive the care and respect they need, but unfortunately, one person alone would not be enough to make a change as big as this one.

  2. "One person alone would not be enough to make a change as big as this one." By that you would be excluding people who have made a world change in history such as Thomas Edison with the light bulb and Richard and Maurice McDonalds who wouldn't have started the food chain, and many others examples that get to a specific point. To start a change one must start with an idea and persevere on the same. Regarding to animal care, it might be hard because of the economical issues Puerto Rico is facing. Still, a small movement in schools can be made to emphasize moral towards animals in the life of the young ones.

  3. The example you provided is a valid one, but these people have developed inventions rather than movements. Even though they all start as ideas, developing inventions and movements are two very different things. Movements require many people, all agreeing in ideals, joining together in the pursuit of their objectives, whereas inventions might only require one person and their personal knowledge towards the specific task. A concept as big as humans respect towards nature is a movement. This is precisely why I believe it would be extremely difficult to acquire such position parting from only one person's initiative.

  4. It was an example of something that was placed in someones' mind and kept fighting until it was accomplished. A movement clearly are some as the one of KONY and TOMS. Both are movements that clearly show the idea of one wanting to do something for a better good.
