The heart of the World

Ever thought of how perfect the Ocean is by itself? By being one of the most important parts of the ecologic system, it is capable of sustaining itself. Take one moment right now to think of the things that one needs to live. Every component that supports human and animal life is found at the ocean or produced by the same.

Think of the Ocean as the heart of the world. Without it, the world wouldn’t have rain, plants would die, oxygen levels would drop 70% and the circle of life would have the most important components missing. The
Creator of the World is perfect. Thinking of a self sustained structure that gives food, oxygen, water and even jobs. By creating all sorts of things, being capable of creating a calm feeling by the sound of the waves. Animals that live in the ocean by them selves are capable of cleaning their own wastes, and creating a circle of life. Also is known as the World’s biggest pathway. Almost everything in one’s house comes from the ocean or is transported by sea.

According to the documentary, the Ocean is capable of sustaining itself. Many scientists and other enthusiasts try to imagine how it is possible that so many animals live under the sea and yet how by the animals themselves the Ocean stays clean. Many of the disasters like the destruction of the Aral Sea, caused by a project the Soviet Union created for irrigation purposes and destroyed 61200 square km of sea. Also the oil spill by the Exxon Valdez who spilled 11 millions gallons of oil in the sea. The oil spill caused the death of approximately 200,000seabirds, at least 2,800 sea otters, approximately 12 river otters, 300 harbor seals, 147 bald eagles, and 22 orcas and an unknown number of salmon and herring. Humans are responsible for many disasters happening in the sea.

Humans use the oceans for many reasons. It’s us who must take care and try to prevent disasters. Many can start helping by keeping beaches clean. It is a shame that after some activities like “La Noche de San Juan” beaches end up all messed up and bottles or wraps from six-packs end up being the trap for some animals. The Ocean has given us great things including food, transportation, water and oxygen. It is our duty to do anything possible to sustain what we have and try to improve for the future.

  1. I agree with the position presented above regarding humans' responsibility towards oceans, when it comes to its maintenance. Since it provides multiple factors used in human's daily lives, we should work together to sustain it, not only for personal interests, but also to preserve marine life. If one could imagine what life would be without marine interaction each person would understand its importance, encouraging everyone to bring out the best of them, worrying about the ocean's necessities rather than one's own. As presented in the documentary, the ocean is capable of sustaining itself, but since humans are a big part of its activities, it is our duty to conserve it as it was before. It is an important matter for everyone because as you stated, the ocean personally contributes to every human being in a way or the other, even though individuals might not realize it most of the times. Documentaries like the one presented are very important since they remind people what the ocean is all about, keeping a spark on, motivating everyone into positively contributing to one of life’s beauties, this being the sea.

  2. Thinking of life without the ocean itself is very hard. The ocean provides food, transportation and even the sense of mental peace. If each individual that is damaging the ocean stops for a moment and truly think of the benefits the way of that person viewing life should change. Obviously there are some that don't care about the beauties of life. The problem with the documentary is that very few take the time to actually watch it and then to reflect. Documentaries are good but often tend do be boring. To create a true impact on peoples' view towards the ocean there should be an impacting short video which explains the ocean and how we are damaging it and end with a question that truly blows one's mind. It is true that each and every one of us is capable of the things that happen to the ocean since humans are the only ones capable of actually harming the environment and changing the way the ocean works by itself.

  3. I disagree with the perspective you presented when developing an alternative for documentaries. A genuine and deep impact would never be made through the exposition of a 'short video'. I believe this portrays the sad reality our generation is living now a days. Everyone wants an easy and fast way to achieve things, when in reality the correct path towards accomplishing the authentic goal one desires to reach is through dedication and perseverance. These qualities should be primordial to every human being, since through them, not only will nature be preserved, but also many positive things would be accomplished. That spark to live better lives will always be present in the daily decision making process, which consequently would help humans view oceans as they are supposed to, part of life.

  4. I understand what you are pointing out but in the society we are, people tend to go the easy way out and it is better to create an idea that will last in each individual's mind than expressing many things that at the end conclude in the same point. My personal experience is that I tend to appreciate documentaries because they are knowledge gainers but people out there are careless about it. In the social groups, in general, people don't talk about the wonders of the world. True ecological conscience is missing in the minds of many.
